A rather horrible recent internet conspiracy theory alleges that the lovable yellow Minions, created for the Despicable Me franchise, were inspired by "Jewish children adopted by Nazi scientists for the sole purpose of using them in poison gas experiments". The picture on the left, which purports to be a photograph of some of the children in question, dressed in masks used to administer poison, was circulated on blogs perpetuating the rumour - some of which also claimed that the children's films are part of a covert attempt to get the public to accept Nazism. All of this, it should hopefully go without saying, is absolute rubbish: the image on the left is instead a picture of people dressed in submarine escape suits, and dates back to 1908.
